David's Magnificent School Year Intro

This school year at NBCA has been my greatest school year ever! I've learned a ton of things, with the help of the best teachers in the universe! I have met so many brilliant, hilarious, talkative, helpful people, and have made many new friends! There is a million ways I love this school, but for right now, I will tell you only three, and three things that I didn't like about this school.

David Wenske's Magnificent School Year!!!

This school year at NBCA has been my greatest school year ever! I've learned a ton of things, with the help of the best teachers in the universe! I have met so many brilliant, hilarious, talkative, helpful people, and have made many new friends! There is a million ways I love this school, but for right now, I will tell you only three things I did and didn't like about this year.

My first reason is that I'm going to school with the friendliest students around! When I walked through the front doors the very first day of school, I was very nervous that the students wouldn't accept me quickly because I was new. Actually, it was just the opposite! Everybody made me felt that I was welcomed that day. The teachers as well game me a warm welcome. Today, I'm friends with about all the 7th grade boys! They are always so encouraging and helpful!

Now for a disappointment about NBCA. I felt that the sports teams and sports in general in our school are mediocre. Anyone know who won the high school state championship? The results weren't posted clearly anywhere that I know of! When I signed up for golf, the 7th graders who signed up didn't hear a thing about the team. The team only consisted of two 8th graders, and NO 7th graders!! But anyways, I'm positive that the sport programs next year will be better!

Now for a positive thing! Our middle school has been on multiple field trips that I know public schools can't go on. Before Christmas break, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade went to our local bowling alley and played bowling! We had such a blast eating nachos, playing arcade games, and watching everyone around you bowl into the gutter. About 3/4 through the year, the 7th grade only went on a trip to the Natural Bridge Caverns! We took a lengthy, adventuresome tour of the breathtaking caverns, sipped on Icees, ate snacks, and bought dirt from the gift shop! I know for sure that there aren't many schools out there that take their students on field trips like these!!

I understand it's part of the curriculum, but we have had some assignments that I felt were to simply eat up my points! For one, who has ever heard of "binder checks?"In some classes, like Mr. Shute's class, although he does do binder checks, he's pretty lenient. I hate to admit it, but Mrs. Anzures is the toughest on her checks. If you're missing a paper or something, 5 points deducted!! That can really add up! Another "sneaky" teacher would be Mrs. McNichols. What she does is, for example, we will be taking notes for a section, and when you think you can get away with very little notes, you have to turn them in!! I know binder checks and "sneaky" tactics can be very frustrating, but it's all for my own good and teaches me how to be more organized!

My last thing that I favor about this year is that when I walk through the halls, go to class, and eat lunch, I'm not cramped like chickens on a farm. Since we have about 170 students from the 6th through the 12th grade, everyone doesn't have to deal with shear numbers like public schools do. For example, between periods in public school, you have to deal with a stampede of about 1000 kids coming after you as you are trying to get to your locker and your next class! Here, everyone and everything is very organized and you are able to breeze through the halls! In class, instead of being in classes of about 20, 25 or so, my biggest class here is math class, with 18 students, and my smallest being reading class, being 10 students big. I find smaller classes being more peaceful and lesser students means more attention!

My final thing I didn't like about this year is that, in my opinion, I think communication in our school is lacking. Middle school students don't know what special events are happening for the high school, and vice versa. As I mentioned earlier, some people still don't know who won the state championship for basketball. Where were the results posted? Nowhere! The main way students know what will be happening in the future is by email. We have no PA system to announce what is to be said, which we probably don't have the money for. I can completely understand that, but I believe that we should improve on getting the word on what is happening around.

Now you know why my 09-10 year at NBCA has been a fabulous one that I'll never forget. I have had my highs and my lows, but you learn from your lows to make you stronger in the future! What did I gain from this year? Intelligence, more confidence to be able to approach people, friends to go to Schlitterbahn with, and a heck of a good time!

Technology, by David Wenske and Andrew Walker

What will you and me be doing without texting? Television? Computers? Well our life would be a lot more strenuous and difficult. I want you to try keeping your cell phone off for one day. Can you do it?? I know I can because I don't use my cell phone :P. We all know technology eases many of our problems in life, but why do we need all these new cell phones and gadgets when they come out?

Anyone remember our good friend, the Playstation 1? When you first look at that name, you might think of a primitive piece of junk, but I remember I used to play the PS1 hours on end. What happened to our old pals, the GameCube, Xbox, and Gameboy Advanced? They've been replaced with the PS3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo DS. Why? Because they're more advanced and sleeker than the older consoles. Do you have a really old video game that you never play because it's too "old?" I have a stack of PS1 games that I still think are really fun to play, although the graphics are horrible. Go ahead and whip out your old Gran Turismo or Spyro game, or ask your dad for his Atari 2600 and go have fun!

Maybe your parents remember having huge clubs as cell phones. Or your grandparents remember when they used the phone with a wheel to call someone. Or your great-great-grandfather might remember when he wrote his message on paper and used a horse to take it to whoever. But that's way back! Now when you walk out of our school every day, you see all the girls whip out their cell phones and start texting the day away. Who in the world are they texting??? The reason we do this is because it's so easy and handy. Can we keep the cell phones we have now and survive with the same one until we die? Or do we need the brand new iPhone 4G when it comes out??

Ahh, the black and white TV. Maybe or grandparents watch TV Land and look for when "I Love Lucy" comes on. At the same time, we look for when "Spongebob" or "Entertainment Tonight" comes on and see what type of juice Opera will drink in the morning. Have you ever owned a TV with a big, hollow space in the back? My dad still has one of those for his main one. Now we have flat screens with "3D technology" and "Quattron technology." Is there any real quality difference between today's TVs and 1990's TVs, other than taking up less space??

Well we know that technology has greatly advanced in the past few years. Ipods, cell phones, computers, GPS, and many other gadgets seem required in our everyday life. Again, keep that cell phone off for one day, if you can. What do you think. Do you like technology the way it is, or do you think that even technology today isn't good enough for your needs?

The Walk by Andrew Walker and David Wenske

Megan was eating her breakfast; waffles, turkey bacon, orange juice and an apple. She was watching the Weather Channel as she sank into her sofa. The anchorman was saying "Today will be a beautiful day to go outside, with temperatures in the seventies and scattered clouds to keep you cool."

Megan just knew what she wanted to do: talk a walk. She stepped outside to see how the weather felt, to see that the sky was slightly cloudier than she thought, with a peculiar black cloud above her. Still, the temperature and humidity made the air perfect for a short walk.

As she was walking down the country street listening to her iPod, and suddenly tempestuous winds started to blow behind her. She heard the sound of a large train coming closer and closer. When she turned around to see where the winds were coming from, a big, dark funnel was touching down!

Megan's heart sank to the ground when she saw the twister coming closer and hearing its terrifying roar. She quickly tried to find a ditch to hide under, because there was no time to make it back to her house. Debris was starting to fly in the air: rocks and dirt were flying through the air. She quickly found a small hole to stay in while the funnel came around her.

The twister, however, did not approach her. Instead, the tornado veered to the right away from her and the house. She got up from the hole and looked to see if any other homes were damaged. Luckily, the funnel skipped over the few homes in the village, and the was very thankful that the twister did no damage. The tornado then ascended back into the cloud, and Megan knew the danger was over. She then walked back home.

Golf... by David Wenske

I think that Golf is a really fun sport! Why? You get to whack a small ball over trees and ponds into a small hole. Also golf is a very quiet game which takes lots of your concentration.
My favorite part of golfing is when you take the driver out and crush your first shot in the middle of the fairway. It may end up in the forest or water, so if you don't want to lose all your balls, focus!!
Once you make your shot, you hop in a little vehicle called the golf cart. The fun things about the golf cart is that you can drive off path, hang on to the back if you want, or take really sharp turns when going as fast as you can! Just pray that you don't fall out!
I also love to have a golf bag full of the nicest clubs, balls, gloves, and anything else I need. Last week, me and my dad went to Dicks Sporting Goods and bought a brand new set of golf clubs (because I won the 1000$ sweepstakes they had there :D .)
So those are my three reasons why I love golf! If you haven't ever tried to play real golf, or just play put-put golf, you really should try!

What I think about Mrs Anzures's class. By Andrew Walker

The first time I came to Mrs. Anzures' classroom was in sixth grade, my first thought I had about her was she was going to be a tough teacher. Now I know all those tough times were for my own good. I have remembered all the times I disobeyed and all the times I have obeyed. I remember when I used to always be in trouble. Also I feel like I have been doing better in grammar because Mrs. Anzures has taught me very many lessons about self-control, and all the way to respecting my classmates and my teachers. I have to say truthfully, I will miss Mrs. Anzures when she leaves NBCA because she taught me so much. That was the first time I came to Mrs. Anzures is classroom was in sixth grade. I love Mrs. Anzures. These are all reasons why I love Mrs. Anzures.
I have to say Mrs. Anzures is the best grammar teacher I have ever had. I have gone through all the hard times with her. But I want to thank her incredibly for teaching me everything I know about Grammar. I love Grammar class its actually my favorite class out of every class and I'm not just saying that. Thats the first time I came to Mrs. Anzures's classroom.

Football!!! by Andrew Walker

The football game was coming to an end. The quarterback yelled hut! Number forty four for the panthers on the other team started running towards the quarterback slam! The quarterback fell to the ground; Jake Tyler from the panthers had stumbled him to the ground. The quarterback Joe Pavelek had finally been tackled. Jake tyler had thirteen tackles tonight. There was fifteen seconds left Joe Pavelek screamed hut! He threw the ball as fast as he could to n umber ten the wide receiver. Jake Tyler ran as fast as he could to the receiver and crushed him to the ground. The game was over. The quarterback Joe Pavelek came to Jake tyler and said Good game. The game had finally come to and end.
